Lemmy Sketch

Today's sketch is Lemmy from 'Motorhead'. Great to see him bringing the noise at Glastonbury this year at the weekend. What a face! What a man. What an absolute rock & roll legend. Lemmy is immortal. Lemmy rules. 'Nuff said.

Here's the best Saturday night rock & roll tune ever....enjoy!

Joey Ramone Sketch

Hey! Ho! Let's Go! Friday's sketch is Mr Jeffrey Ross Hymen....aka 'Joey Ramone' the lead singer of The Ramones who sadly left us all too soon. I have my old pal Fraser to thank for introducing me to their music when we were scruffy, underpaid, teenage shelf-stackers back in the day. Been a fan ever since! We saw The Ramones live at the Barra's in Glasgow in the very early nineties and they were just incredible. Definitely one of the best bands I've ever seen. Anyway, it was a little tricky to draw Joey as he never had much of his face on show in any photographs....always partially hidden by his heavy mop of hair and was never without his trademark rose coloured sunglasses and leather jacket...so these are the key elements to this caricature. Despite the very smudgy fingers I ended up with, he was fun to sketch nonetheless!

Here's Joey covering 'What a Wonderful World'....enjoy!

Iggy Pop Sketch

Today's sketch is Mr James Newell Osterberg Junior....AKA 'Iggy Pop'. Another one of my musical faves! I really enjoyed sketching the leathery faced, grizzled old wrinkly, rockin' meatbag! Such a cool guy. You can't help but feel like a total 'badass' when you're driving about in the car listening to Iggy's stuff pounding at full volume.....with the kids in the back..... as you take them to Cubs and Brownies.....Yep, it's a grand life.

Here's Iggy doing 'Lust For Life' ... ('Trainspotting' movie vid)...enjoy!

Terry Hall Sketch

Today's caricature sketch is (a young!) Terry Hall - lead singer of Coventry's finest - 'The Specials'. I've loved this band and the whole 2 Tone / reggae thing since I was in primary school. My older brother got me into them when I inherited his record collection (cheers, bruv!) Me & Irene went to see The Specials at the Barra's in Glasgow last year and it really was a fab night. The ol' rudeboys can certainly still put on a skanking show. The whole dancefloor was bouncin'...! ‪#‎TooHot‬

Here's The Specials doing 'Too Much Too Young' on The Old Grey Whistle Test. Bit o' class....

Sid Vicious Sketch

Today's sketch - Sid Vicious. From The Sex Pistols. Icon for the doomed punk generation. 'Never Mind The Bollocks' is most definitely in my top 5 albums of all time.... Just so's ya know! And before any smarty punk pants people out there inform me that Sid never actually played on 'The Bollocks' , yes, I am well aware of that thankyou. He had a great face and look though, and attitude by the bucketload, (hence his part in the band) and the reason for my sketch. Hope ya like it!

Boz Boorer Sketch

Today's sketchbook doodle is Rockabilly guitar legend; hep cat and all round good guy, Boz Boorer. I'm a big fan of this man's work and the people he collaborates with - Morrissey, Edwyn Collins, Adam Ant, Emelda May, The Polecats and more...Boz has a very expressive face, so I thought he'd make a good morning 'warm up' drawing.

Here's a crackin' Boz tune, and it's under 2 minutes long, therefore you have no excuse not to listen to it!
Enjoy!

UPDATE! - Boz saw my caricature and asked if he could use it as his profile pic on his Facebook page. I was glad he liked it and quite flattered so I agreed. Thanks to everyone for all the nice comments I received on my Facebook page about this post.
