Wedding Caricatures

Another Winter Wedding! Congratulations to Debbie and Andrew who tied the knot  yesterday. I was hired to attend the reception at Rosslea Hall Hotel in Rhu to keep the guests entertained with some live caricatures. Really enjoyed adding some fun to the big day! Here's a pic of the wedding caricature that the happy couple commissioned from me in advance to go on display at the reception.

Debbie and Andrew also commissioned a caricature from me in my 'live style' of the Minister who married them as a 'thankyou' gift for him. Nice idea, eh? He has a great face - full of fun and character! I enjoyed sketching him. Many thanks once more to Debbie and and Andrew for the commissions and for hiring me to be there on their big day: )

If you or someone you know is getting married then why not add some personalised fun to the proceedings with caricatures? Live caricature is also a fantastic way to keep guests entertained whilst the Bride and Groom are off being photographed, etc. A great talking point and a unique memento for guests to take home! Big laughs guaranteed! Get in touch with me to find out more.

Stevi Ritchie Sketch!

Just for fun! Here's 10 minute 'warm up' doodle from this morning - he's the latest reject from 'The X Factor' here in the UK and no doubt Simon Cowell has already deleted and blocked his number on his phone....coming soon to a Pantomime, or Poundland near you; ladies and gentlemen may I present to you, everyone's favourite 'Hayleigh Cropper-From-Coronation-Street-Lookalike'....Mr STEVI RITCHIE!!!

Man, if ever a face was made for a caricature.....! I haven't been this excited since 'Subo' made her telly debut on screen! Hope ya like it : )

Fab Customer Feedback!

Fab Customer Feedback! Received these nice comments via email from Bill, who booked me to draw at his daughters wedding at the weekend:

"Edd, you were a star, and probably the single biggest talking point, so thanks again!
I will be singing your praises to everyone that will listen, and I wish you every success in the future, your talent helped make my daughters day very special.

Cheers,"
- Bill

My pleasure Bill!

I also received this (slightly wobbly!) photo of Nicola's guests from her wedding reception also on Saturday....

She told me my work "...was fab, and all the guests loved their caricatures! We are so glad we booked you for our wedding! Thanks again!" - Nicola.

Thanks Nicola! It's so nice to get feedback from satisfied customers.
Much appreciated.

As you can tell from Nicola's photo, my live event caricatures are given away free to guests along with a clear zip lock bag to take the artwork home in. Handy for avoiding wet weather or 'late night drink spills!' *Potential customers take note: Providing a plastic bag for your artwork is something of a 'rarity' amongst the majority of caricaturists out there working in Scotland (I kid you not).

It's a service I am happy to provide for my customers, (...and I won't even charge you 5p for them!) You'll be lucky if you even get an elastic band off some guys to roll up your drawing with, so please bear this mind when choosing a caricaturist. Remember, all caricaturists are different, so make sure you hire the right one for your event! Email me at: eddsheads@hotmail.co.uk for prices and info.

Drawing live the traditional way.

Here's 2 pics from the 2 weddings I drew live at at in one day on Saturday! Very busy time at both do's...pleased to report my work generated lots of laughs and many happy punters went away delighted with their drawings!

One of these ladies here was a bit shocked and stunned to discover that all my work was hand drawn with markers on paper within a few minutes. She told me she initially thought I'd created the drawings on an i-pad or tablet "..because they look so clean, sharp and printed!" Nice of her to say and we had a nice chat; but that said though, I personally don't really rate i-pads, etc when it comes to creating live caricatures at events.

I have yet to be impressed by any live caricature work I've seen on those things. The majority of live caricature i-pad artwork I've came across looks atrocious.  A artist with poor drawing skills will still produce naff drawings no matter what technology he uses, so it seems. A lot of artists who use them really need to work on their basic caricature drawing skills in my opinion. I'll stick with pens and paper! Check out my galleries in the 'Photos' section of my Facebook page to see more of my traditional 'live caricature work'. : )

Announcement!

Sorry folks, but I've had to 'call time' on the Christmas commissions as things are getting a little crazy around here! Normal service will be resumed in January 2015. Thanks for all the interest in my work!

Alex Salmond

Today marks the end of an era in Scottish politics as Alex Salmond steps down as Scotland's First Minister. Love him or loathe him, there's no denying he has changed the face of Scottish politics. He was a breath of fresh air as far as I'm concerned. I admired him and I wish him well. Here's my caricature tribute to him.

Happy Birthday Kevin Bridges!

A couple of rough sketches of  one of my favourite comedians (and fellow Glaswegian!) Kevin Bridges. Born on this day, 1986. Well worth checking out if you're a comedy fan if he comes to a town near you!

SPONGEBOB AND PUSSY CAT GIRL!

Well readers, it was Halloween last week and inbetween working on caricature commissions and drawing at events this month; I've been busy working on these costumes for my kids. Thought I'd share these pics with you. Our Tommy (aged 8) wanted to be 'SpongeBob Squarepants' and Evie (5) wanted to go as a "pussy cat". As you do... Scroll down to read how I did it....

Halloween costumes hand made by Dad....Dad is  'arty' and indeed 'farty'.

Tommy's costume (thankfully!) was just an old cardboard bike box I got from my local Halfords store for free. I cut holes in it for the mouth and arms, then glued 2 sponges on for the cheeks. The nose is a wee plastic ball glued on to the top of a wee plastic bottle. The eyes are a polystyrene ball cut in half and also glued on. I then painted the whole thing with cardboard primer, then spraypainted it yellow out in my shed ( almost killing myself with the fumes in the process! Took out a fair few spiders, though! )

The other details were hand painted with acrylics. I fitted shoulder straps on it also, so it would be comfy for Tom to wear like a rucksack. I glued an extra square of thick cardboard into the inner 'back' area to strengthen the bit where the straps would be and so that the cardboard wouldn't rip when 'weight bearing' when worn. I got Tom to wear his brown shorts and long sleeved yellow top. I got the gloves and yellow tights off the internet for a couple of quid, and the 'stripes' on the white socks are actually electrical tape! Job done!

Evie's outfit was simpler as she just wanted to wear her 'cat' suit; however she wasn't too impressed with the tiny flimsy mask that came with it. I bought some sheets of foam and glue from Hobbycraft and cut some shapes and created a new one for her that fitted snugly over her head.

I think the results aren't too shabby and I'm fairly happy with how they turned out...especially as I don't work on these kind of projects too often! Anyway, both my kids are delighted with the results and can't wait to wear them to the school disco this week, so the job's a good 'un! Think I may have earned myself a few "Cool Dad" points on my Clubcard from them also!

BACK TO BLOG!

Well hello there blog people! Wow....I can't believe it's been over a year since my last blog post! Time flies. I hope you are all well. So where have I been and why did I abandon the blog for the last nineteen months?

Well, the short answer is that I created a facebook page. Please do check it out and give my page a 'like'... if you likey! Here's the link: www.Facebook.com/EddTravers

Pleased to report my FB page has proven to be very popular...so that's where I've been posting the majority of my news and new creations. I love the fact that I can communicate instantly with people (clients / potential clients / general caricature fans etc...) and I've also had many bookings and commission work via the facebook page..... which is something which has never happened here anyway, so this ol' blog kind of got put on the back burner and got forgotten and neglected I'm afraid.

I also joined twitter a while ago and have enjoyed connecting with people and getting my artwork out there too. I'll be honest, I've had a lot to learn and it's taken me a while to get my head around the whole 'social media' thing, and I've had more than a few problems along the way....but I think I'm getting there. Twitter has completely amazed me when famous celebrities have 'retweeted' my caricatures of them to their millions of followers (Sir Alan Sugar, Ford Kiernan and Kevin Bridges for example...)...which in turn caused a bit of a 'twitterstorm' and  earned me lots of new twitter followers in the process! Just goes to show the power of social media I suppose! If you're on twitter, give me a follow and I'll follow you back: https://twitter.com/eddtravers

However as well as facebook & twitter I'd like to keep this blog ticking over and will endeavour to post more work and news here as it happens. So, that said, let's bring things bang up to date with a recentish caricature of  the all new Doctor Who time-lord, Peter Capaldi.

Hope you like it! Fun Fact: I went to the same high school as Peter Capaldi, you know....Saint Ninian's High School in Kirkintilloch (although not at the same time!) We even had the same art teacher...(who was an utter moron)!

I think Peter has done a fantastic job as the new Doctor and I'm looking forward to the next series already.
