Happy Birthday John Lydon!

Many happy returns to John Joseph Lydon, AKA 'Johnny Rotten' from The Sex Pistols, born on this day, 1956. I have always been inspired by the DIY ethics of PUNK and the Pistols are an on-going inspiration....definitely one of my favourite bands. I think John is a National Treasure. He speaks with  a lot of truth, wit and honesty. His sense and his anger, bite and rage at the world remain undiminished with no sign of 'mellowing' despite his years! I find him hugely entertaining and applaude his 'zero-tolerance for bullshit' approach to everything. He's a true 'one off' and a hilarious lunatic to boot....not to mention a great face to draw! Here's to ya, Johnny....!

Incidentally, I have prints for sale of this piece if anyone's interested.
Why not get a great gift for the Pistols fan in your life...? Valentine's day is coming up soon, y'know...Email me at: eddsheads@hotmail.co.uk

Live Event Caricatures

It's been a while since I posted any photos of my live event caricatures here on the blog...although if you regularly look at my Facebook page, you'll see my more recent work there! Anyway, here's a wee selection of photos from the 50 Plus Show I attended in November last year in Glasgow. I was hired by MacMillan Cancer for the event to draw 'free caricatures' at their stand to attract business. We were extremely busy on both days so mission accomplished then! (Who doesn't love a 'freebie', eh?) Thanks to Johnathon for the gig and, as always thanks a million to the good citizens of Glasgow for letting me share the photos!  Click to enlarge any image.

A Burns Night Poem

Here's a poem for Burns Night for all my fellow Scots out there.....
"Tonight's the night, when aw we Scots, wherever we may be,
Raise a glass, and gie a toast, to the bonnie Bard, Rabbie,
Then oor favourit dish is piped into us, upon a silver platter,
And wance again, we aw enjoy, a Mars Bar fried in batter..."

Happy Burns Night Everyone!

FOUR MORE YEARS OF OBAMA

FOUR MORE YEARS OF OBAMA...He gets sworn in for his second term today. Lets hope he addresses the gun problem in America once and for all. NO MORE GUNS, LET THE CHILDREN GROW UP.

Following the last abominal massacre in the US, one fails to understand why the II Amendment is still in force. It was adopted in 1791 stating:
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, ...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Aye, right....what kind of freedom is that, when people feel the need to bear an arm just in case? How many more innocent lives to be jeopardised or ended before we all realise bearing arms is not the way to go? Not only in the USA but across the world.

The National Rifle Association says "Guns don't kill people, people do". In Eddie Izzard's words: "Well I think the gun helps, one would have to be very dodgy on the heart to die from someone standing in front of them and going 'Bang! Pum-ratatata-pum!"

Arms should be replaced by education and humanity.
And last but not least, I can't help but cite the one and only Mr Chaplin:
"...We want to live by each others happiness, not by each others misery...In this world there is room for everyone....Greed has poisoned men's soul, has barricaded the world with hate...our knowledge has left us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness...."

A little bit of politics there, folks....!

At the weekend, I finally got around to watching 'Just Dandy' - the BBC documentary about the Dandy comic which went out of print in November 2012 after 75 years...a sad loss, I'm sure you'll agree. It was a terrific pr...ogramme and was presented by Ford Kiernan, star of 'Still Game' and 'Chewin' the Fat' and who is, of course, a Scottish comedy legend!

Ford paid tribute to the long running comic (also made in Scotland!) with genuine affection. The show also featured contributions from Brian Cox, Nick Park and Frank Skinner, and is well worth a look if you're a comics fan. Check it out on the BBC I Player. Anyway, here's my tribute to Ford Kiernan - a caricature sketch and my first 'famous face' drawing of 2013! Hope you like it....and long live comics!
